Beautiful mistakes
Well I suppose that I should know
exactly what to say
before I sit and try to write
a single line today
But that's not me - I write to think
to see what I will say -
Five hundred words may grace the page
before I find my way
And then, my friend, I'll start again -
another empty page
But now I've found a purpose
and a reason to engage
And so I'll write. To think. To write -
and cut til it is clear
For every line that I refine
a dozen disappear
And though it's true, I tend to lose
the most of what I make
My favorite lines, I always find,
are beautiful mistakes
And so with words so, too, with life
at least that's what I've found -
wait for inspiration and
you'll always wait around
But throw some words upon the page
for sometimes all it takes -
Is a hundred tries until you find
Your beautiful mistakes.
