Puddle trouble
Puddle Trouble
Imagine if you will with me -
You're walking home one day
when you hear a little whimper
come from not too far away.
You turn the corner and you find
a puddle on the ground.
And in the puddle there you see
a puppy that’s half drowned!
It’s clearly stuck down in the muck
and taking its last breath.
And you’re the only one who
can prevent this certain death.
What do you do? You help, of course!
You jump into the muck.
You wade out to the puppy
and you help it get unstuck.
But what if you were walking in
your finest Sunday dress?
Would you still jump into the muck
or would you reassess?
Would you think twice to sacrifice
your nicest pair of shoes?
For a pup stuck in the muck-
a pup you never knew?
I bet, my friend, that you’d jump in -
You seem the saving type.
Now pretend it’s not a pup -
but instead… a child.
A girl that you have never seen
is flailing in that water.
If you don’t help, then some poor mom
will lose her lovely daughter.
What do you do? You help, I bet!
You jump into the muck.
You walk out to the little girl
and quickly she’s unstuck.
Now one last time, let’s change the game
and tell me what you’d do:
Instead of at your feet, the puddle’s
far away from you?
A block away, a street or two,
or far across the town -
Would you endure just to ensure
that girl will never drown?
And what if she’s in Tennessee
or down in Timbuktu?
Should where she lives or who she is
determine what you do?
If you said no, you’d surely go
no matter what the distance -
I tell you now, that countless kids
are in need of such assistance;
At little cost or personal loss,
you can save their very existence.
