In theory, I’m familiar with
The value of persistence,
But me I choose to gently cruise
The paths of least resistance.

I’ve heard expressed that our success
Depends on showing up,
Me? I’ll wait until the date
I’ve finished growing up.

Day by day -- the experts say --
The habits make the man!
But I demur, as I prefer
To plan and plan and plan.

A bite at a time -- so goes the rhyme --
An elephant you may eat -
But an elephant seems so awfully big
I take my meals petite.

I know what they say; I believe the cliches --
About discipline, habits, and stuff;
And I plan to pursue it, I’ll certainly do it,
As soon as I’m disciplined enough.
